Term of Reference for Radiology Consultant – Hagadera
Introduction: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides health services in Hagadera and Kambioos, at Dadaab Refugee Camp since January 2009.
The IRC plans to have a consultant radiologist/Sonographer to train the health staff (medical doctors, clinical officers and maternity nurses) on basic sonography and support in doing obstetric ultrasounds at the maternity ward.
IRC has one Ultrasound machine which is mainly used in maternity by the medical doctors to perform basic obstetric scans to expectant mothers visiting maternity and with obstetric complications (IUFD, breech presentation, congenital malformations).
Objective of the Consultancy:
To conduct Ultrasound induction training to the medical doctors, clinical officers and nurses on
- Induction to ultrasound equipment
- Basic anatomy in Sonography
- Image display and scanning techniques(Transducer orientation and face)
- 1st, 2nd and 3rd Trimester ultrasounds scanning to monitor fetal well being(Gestation, presentation, lie, Fetal Heart rate, abnormalities)
- Care of ultrasound equipment.
Tasks to be performed
- Conduct the ultrasound induction training to the health staff on the topics highlighted and facilitates practical sessions with all the participants in the training.
- Conduct a CME to all the health staff on ultrasonography and interpretation of the medical reports to guide in management of patients.
- Prepare and submit a report of the training with recommendations to the health manager.
- IRC will provide the list of the staff to be involved in the training and identify mothers for the practical sessions at the hospital maternity unit.
- IRC will ensure the ultrasound machine is available for the induction training and relevant training materials for the participants.
- IRC will provide transport for the consultant radiologist from Nairobi and back after the consultancy.
Duration of Consultancy: The consultancy is expected to last for 5 days from 28th to 2nd October, 2015.
Terms of Payment and Utility:
The IRC will pay the consultation fee for one radiologist consultant at ksh.30,000 per day.
The IRC will facilitate transport of the consultant to and from Nairobi.
The IRC will provide accommodation for the consultant at IRC compound.
The consultant will pay for his/her meals at IRC Hagadera cafeteria.
Payments will be made after submission of the training report to the Health Manager.
