The Information Technology department supports the organization’s work by providing reliable and scalable application development and infrastructure for the IRC’s offices in the US and around the world, including many technologically challenging locations.
Job Overview / Summary: The Network Engineer is based at IRC’s headquarters in New York, NY, and is primarily responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of global IT network infrastructure, including multiple datacenters and Cisco network devices requiring CLI-level experience with Cisco IOS to manage routers, firewalls and switches.
Major Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and manage global network architecture (LAN/WAN, connectivity, etc.)
- Assist with creation of policies and procedures
- Ensure network security through appropriate controls, policies, and deployment of systems; perform regular audits
- Provide hands-on leadership in the configuration and maintenance of network hardware, DNS, DHCP, switching, routing and other essential network services
- Own administration of Cisco switches, routers, VPN, and ASA/Meraki/Cyberoam devices (firewall rules, site-to-site VPNs, software updates, etc.)
- Monitor network resources 24/7 via centralized apps to pre-empt or respond to outages
- Recommend, specify and manage the implementation of network equipment and applications
- Ensure high availability and redundancy of data connectivity; implement disaster recovery and business continuity measures to support the IRC’s Business Continuity Plan.
- Apply expertise in optimizing network performance to address connectivity needs under challenging circumstances.
- Provide network documentation and training to organization and IT department
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with IRC department/office managers, IT contractors and key vendors
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 3-6 years of work experience in professional environment
- CCNA or equivalent experience
- Experience with any or all of the following technologies a plus: VMWare, Citrix, MS Scripting, Group Policy administration, Backup Exec, MS Exchange, Riverbed WAN optimization appliances, MS SQL (including data replication), Dell KACE, IIS, Linux
- Familiarity and experience implementing telecommunication circuit types (T1, DS3, fiber, etc.)
- VSAT technology experience a plus
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment and efficiently organize the workflow of a fast-paced team
- Ability to track and process multiple issues simultaneously and accurately
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: the ability to effectively liaise with a variety of colleagues in a diverse multi-cultural environment
- Self-starter attitude with a sense of urgency, commitment, and the desire to succeed
