Applications are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the above Fixed Term Appointment in UNICEF Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office, Nairobi.

 

Purpose of the Post: Under the direct supervision of the Regional WASH Adviser, the incumbent is responsible for knowledge management (KM), data analysis and evidence generation related to water, sanitation and hygiene trends, practices and status across the Eastern and Southern Africa region (ESAR), to inform regional and country strategies and implementation plans.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake analysis of regional and national data related to WASH status, trends, and relationships with other sectors (e.g. education, health).   
  • In cooperation with RO colleagues and COs identify and develop syntheses of relevant lessons learned and country cases (e.g. field notes, technical briefs, advocacy papers).
  • Support the ESARO WASH section in coordinating the implementation of KM initiatives in the regional office and country offices.
  • Support the introduction of new concepts of collaboration, knowledge creation and sharing, such as communities of practice or virtual workspaces
  • Support the ESARO WASH section in contractual matters, provide technical inputs and represent the section at relevant technical meetings when required.
  • Work with the Communications section and HQ colleagues on linking internal KM to external dissemination
Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced University Degree in a WASH-related field (including engineering, physical sciences, social sciences, public health and education).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in WASH.
  • Individual must have experience in data and statistical analysis and should have worked on such projects for at least 3 years.
Language: Fluency in English (working knowledge of French and/or Portuguese an advantage)
