The Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority (UFAA) is a State Corporation which was established by the Unclaimed Financial Assets Act No. 40 of 2011 with the primary mandate of receiving unclaimed financial assets from the holders of such assets on behalf of the Government, safeguarding and re-uniting the assets with their rightful owners.
The Authority invites applications from a suitably qualified and experienced person to fill the following position:
Database Administrator

Overall Purpose
  • To maintain Authority’s database to ensure optimum performance by identifying user needs and to support the development of formulated business continuity plan.
  • Designing specifications to computerize and network all functions, activities and processes and enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Modifying software programmes to support organizational needs; design and install interactive web sites that include database connectivity, multimedia and searchable content
  • Troubleshooting database and system problems, including care and maintenance of hardware systems and monitoring computer security measures
  • Providing technical support services to computer users.
  • Train computer users and equip with necessary skills to facilitate the implementation of computer-based information systems
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensuring regular backups are undertaken and regular testing of critical system software, application software, data files and documentation to ensure reliability. In addition ensure that the disaster recovery site is managed and tested regularly and license compliance is adhered to.
  • Sustaining database security and integrity of data.
  • Monitoring, managing and fine tuning databases.
  • Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
  • Maintaining the performance of all databases by implementing new releases and patches; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware requirements.
  • Recommend solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.
  • Proposing specifications and flowcharts for new database installation, recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements and also maintain updated database documentation
  • Install revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques and coordinating installation requirements.
  • Providing database reports as required
  • Conducting user training; providing information and resolving database problems.
  • Conducting training needs analysis to develop and implement on-the- job training programmes to equip staff and users with effective computer skills to navigate and undertake routine backup of files, care and maintenance of computer systems
  • Providing technical guidance to drive the implementation of information and communication technology plans and policies in all functions, activities and processes;
  • Preparing proposals and budgets to fund technology improvements. Confer with vendors, other organizations and staff to integrate complex and heterogeneous technology environments to support the achievement of organizational goals
  • Keeping abreast in ICT developments through continuous professional development
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualifications from a university recognized by the Commission for University Education.
  • Professional qualifications
  • Solid understanding of ERP and Databases.
  • Solid understanding of Servers and Networks.
  • At least 6 years work experience in development and installation customization of organization- wide computer systems
  • Ability to create and link databases to websites and to protect the integrity of data and information.
