Vacancy Announcement: Two Communications Officers (Temporary)

The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a Nairobi-based, international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy relevant research on population, health, and education issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.
APHRC is committed to developing the next generation of globally competitive African scholars and leads by example through numerous research capacity strengthening initiatives and strong partnerships with top African universities and research institutions.
Over the last decade, APHRC has contributed to a better Africa through quality research, results-based strategic communications, and policy engagement.
APHRC seeks to contract two communications professionals to provide maternity coverage on a full-time basis from June to October 2015 (exact dates TBD upon hire).

 

Qualifications:
  • University degree; Masters’ degree is an added advantage
  • Minimum three years professional work experience
  • Must be available to work in the Nairobi office and available for full time work during the months of June, July, August, and September at a minimum
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines, and juggle multiple priorities with professionalism and good judgement
  • Experience in health and/or education communications, policy, and/or advocacy desired
Duties:
  • Research, write and edit communication material including newsletters, articles for the web, policy briefing papers, report summaries and case studies
  • Organize events for public stakeholders, implementing partners and journalists to launch, sensitize and/or create awareness on APHRC’s research
  • Write, edit and/or upload web-based information materials in order to daily maintain and update APHRC’s website(s)
  • Support the tracking of research publications, including collating researcher citations and library stocktaking
  • Policy engagement and communications support to research programs including content generation (blogs, media articles, social media etc.)
  • Any other tasks given by the Policy Engagement Manager
