Child Protection Advisor
Based in Nairobi, the position is a three-year contract reporting to the Child Protection Manager.
Purpose of the Job and Key Responsibilities: The purpose of this position is to provide strategic, technical leadership and support in the design and implementation of programs/projects that effectively improve and deliver on the well-being and rights of children in Kenya and increase effectiveness of child protection systems and mechanisms at family, community and institutional levels.

 

The key responsibilities are but not limited to:
  • Promote and support integration of child rights and protection in all Plan Kenya’s programs, projects and proposals
  • Support the rollout of relevant Child Protection (CP) policies, standards and framework.
  • Support capacity development of implementation partners, communities, youth and children groups
  • Develop and support strategic partnerships and alliances, at County levels and occasionally at national level
  • Facilitate the development and nurturing of innovative child rights and child protection initiatives
  • Promote inclusion and participation of marginalized minorities and vulnerable groups such as Orphaned and Vulnerable Children and children living with disabilities within Plan’s programs
  • Participate and facilitate engagement with relevant government ministries and departments at different levels (national and county) on child protection and child rights in the absence of the Child Protection Manager
  • Provide operational guidance and technical support on Child Rights programming (i.e. assessment, design, proposal development, project implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting)
  • Facilitate and participate in sharing and learning of lessons drawn from our programs to enhance child rights programming and protection
  • Support the reporting of child abuse incidences; documentation of programme experiences and good practices and disseminate the information to influence policy and practice
  • Support and provide back stopping for case management at the PU level and whenever necessary work with relevant authorities to follow up such cases
  • Participate and represent Plan in relevant clusters, TWG and child protection reference groups
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies, Law or International Human Rights (preferred) or related studies. A Master’s degree in the areas mentioned is an added advantage
  • At least 5 years relevant work experience in, Child Rights, Child Protection and Advocacy with National/ International NGO or other institutions.
  • Experience in rights-based approaches to development including engaging with government and multilateral institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child protection systems and mechanism in Kenya
  • Demonstrated work experience working with poor and marginalized communities and specific child related programming
  • Demonstrated advocacy experience at a national and county level.
