Vacancy: Editorial Coordinator
Spear Sharp Limited in a newly incorporated book publishing and communications firm based in Athi River, but poised to serve both the country and the regional markets.
Spear Sharp would like to commence with production of ECDE materials as well as commissioning of authors to prepare revision books for both primary and secondary school curriculum.
The company is looking for a dynamic person with at least 3 years’ experience in manuscript commissioning and editing to fill the above position for an initial contract of 6 months, renewable.
Job Requirements
- Editing manuscripts from authors’ draft to the finished copy
- Identifying, pre-testing and commissioning authors to write for different subject areas
- Preparation of guidelines to authors for use in manuscript development
- Innovative interpretation of curriculum and non curriculum guidelines to determine essential features of manuscripts
- Analysis of existing books to identify gaps and advise on the need for fresh and differentiated materials
- Keeping communication with authors alive
- Reading and reviewing all incoming manuscripts to determine whether they are publishable or not.
- Guiding illustrators, photographers and designers to come up with state – of – the -art works that attract the users.
- Identify new markets and prepare budgets for approval
- Participate in book promotion, book promotional materials and ensure the company grows to a respectable brand.
Person Specifications
- Degree in Education or Publishing
- Knowledge and proficiency in the use of the Adobe Suite
