We operate an office in Nairobi, have Country Offices in Somaliland (Hargeisa) and South Sudan (Torit) and a Representative in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa).

In South Sudan, Caritas Switzerland implements comprehensive recovery projects to provide basic services that aim at increasing access to quality education, improve food security as well as improving access to, and use of safe water by the beneficiaries.

Among others Caritas builds water catchments and has a strong focus on sanitation and hygiene education and as well as teacher training, strengthening of Parents/teachers associations and water management institutions.
Caritas Switzerland is currently seeking a Head of Food Security Department / Project Manager for its South Sudan Programme.
This is an unaccompanied position.
Workplace: Torit with frequent travels within Eastern Equatoria State
Starting date: As soon as possible
Duration: 6-12 months
Key tasks & responsibilities
  • Plan and manage all project activities within the Technical Department;
  • Systematically monitor and evaluate project progress, effectiveness and impact and produce progress reports;
  • Identify project partners and service providers;
  • Provide supervision, technical assistance, training and quality controls for project staff, project partners, and service providers;
  • Coordinate and liaise with local authorities and provide technical support;
  • Organise and coordinate consultancies and project visits and training sessions;
  • Lead the project team and coordinate all activities within the Technical Department;
  • Represent Caritas at specified NGO and donor meetings;
  • Prepare project proposals and reports for submission to the Caritas headquarters and back donors on project progress and performance, in regard to outputs/outcomes/impact, periodically and as required;
  • Follow up workshops, monitor and report on their outcomes/impact and provide additional training where necessary;
  • Liaise with local communities, implementing partners, government and UN agencies to ensure project objectives are achieved;
  • Develop and implement monthly/quarterly/annual programme monitoring plans of the project;
  • Maintain records of all relevant resources and reports related to field project activities;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Country Representative
Essential requirements & qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline (civil engineering, hydraulics/ fluid dynamics, hydromechanics);
  • Proven track record in resource management, PCM and organisational development;
  • At least 5 years work experience gained in a senior management position as well as field work experience in recovery contexts;
  • At least 3 years’ experience as project manager of a project with a budget of not less than a 1 million USD;
  • Experience in implementing gravity fed water systems and rock catchment schemes would be an advantage;
  • Experience to design and implement water systems, applying a holistic approach;
  • Experience in leadership, logistics and procurement of field operations;
  • Strong planning, presentation, communication and reporting skills;
  • Flexible, innovative and sensitive to cultural values;
  • Knowledge of the South Sudanese context is an added value;
  • Fluent in English required , German is an asset Application
