International Relief and Development Jobs in Uganda October/Nov 2014

 

International Relief and Development (IRD), is a non-profit organizkation specializing in international development and humanitarian assistance in over 40 countries. 
IRD works with a wide range of partners to design and implement programs in the areas of health, economic development, relief, infrastructure, civil society, and food security. 
IRD is seeking candidates for an anticipated Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) program in Uganda:
 
1. The Chief of Party will manage the project, liaise with USAID and other donors as well as Implementing Partners, provide technical vision and guidance, and ensure that quality standards and schedules are met. 

The COP will manage overall contract requirements, including staffing and cost, and quality control of all work performed under the contract.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
providing technical guidance to the project, serving as main point of contact for USAID and IRD HQ, ensuring supervision of all field activities and personnel as well as timely achievement of all deliverables within budget.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in a related field;
  • At least ten years’ experience in international development, including experience and/or technical knowledge in designing, managing and evaluating multi-million dollar development projects;
  • At least five years’ experience as a COP or senior field manager (e.g Country Director, Regional Director, etc) on large WASH projects in developing countries with funding from USAID or other international client(s);
  • Prior experience in Eastern and/or Southern Africa, preferably Uganda.
2. The Deputy Chief of Party will manage day-to-day operations, including staff and program activities, sub-awards, and oversight of monitoring, evaluation and reporting

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supporting the COP in devising strategies, work plans and performance indicators to achieve project objectives and appropriate allocation of project resources, coordinate with COP to identify obstacles to the project and implement solutions, coordinate with program partners, mentor and support technical staff and provide managerial and technical support to project advisors and managers.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field;
  • At least seven years’ experience of progressively more responsible experience managing  internationally funded WASH and/ or community mobilization development projects;
  • Demonstrated commitment to water governance reform in developing countries;
  • Familiarity with Ugandan water and sanitation systems and hygiene behavior challenges preferred;
  • Prior experience in Eastern and/or Southern Africa, preferably Uganda.
