Vacancy: Company Medical Officer

The organisation is geographically located in Nairobi, Naivasha, Kericho, Mt. Kenya and Mombasa and works with 1,200 vegetable out growers and over 10,000 tea out growers.


We invite applications for the post of Company Medical Officer which has arisen in our Kericho Operations. 
This is a senior management position.

The Job: Reporting to the Managing Director, the Company Medical Officer will coordinate, supervise and provide medical services to employees and their families within James Finlay Kenya limited health facilities.

Key responsibilities include;
  • Coordinating, directing and supervising the provision of all medical services with the company.
  • In liaison with Human Resource Director, responsible for staffing and supervision of medical staff in the company.
  • Ensuring that all assessment and treatment provided are properly documented on patient’s files or as required by law.
  • Develop clinical protocol and procedures.
  • Responsible for procurement of drugs and other related medical supplies in liaison with material management department. This includes ensuring completeness and accuracy of inventory of drugs and supplies to all health facilities in the company.
  • Ensuring that all Environment, Health and Safety requirements are adhered to at the health facilities.
  • Handling any emerging medico-legal documents and assessments in cases of industrial injuries.
  • Referring patients for external treatment and reviewing all medical bills incurred outside the company, ensuring there is value for money.
  • Coordinating all primary health-care activities within the company. This includes running awareness programs on HIV, TB, and other emerging medical concerns.
  • Preparing and submitting medical reports as may be required by various stakeholders.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors’ degree in Medicine (MBchB). Those with Master’s degree in Public Health or health service management and registered with DOSH, will have an added advantage.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a physician in a busy hospital environment and at least one year in administrative position.
  • Practical familiarity with the Kenya legal environment relating to health matters.
  • Strong administrative skills with good command of written and spoken Kiswahili and English.
  • Sound computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage time effectively, work autonomously, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks; and must be a team player.
  • Sound and adaptable personal style: the sensitivity and authenticity to operate effectively across different cultural, religious, gender and age groups.
