Our client is an Environment Organization based in Nairobi and established to mobilize, manage, and avail resources for environment management.

Manager – Environment

Overall Purpose: Responsible to the Director Environmental Services, for planning, designing and coordinating, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies and projects that promote sustainable national development.
 

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in identifying pertinent national environmental issues; the design, implementation and evaluation of environment projects
  • Facilitate in the definition and identification of environmental project, missions, goals, tasks, and resource requirements;
  • Resolve or assist in the resolution of conflicts within and between projects or functional areas;
  • Develop methods to monitor project progress; and provide corrective supervision if necessary.
  • Responsibility for assembling the project staff; for their technical or functional development, performance, and/or termination during the project or projects.
  • Manage project budget and resource allocation. Follow a defined, agreed upon project management cycle
  • Facilitate the definition of service levels and project requirements. Interact regularly with stakeholders to determine their needs and to develop plans for improving delivery.
  • Overseeing the use of all resources within the organisation for implementing environmental policies and practices
  • Developing schemes for progressive environment management practices ensuring compliance with environmental legislation
  • Auditing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies for improvement and enhancement of environmental practices
  • Managing environmental strategy budgets liaising with the Director and internal staff including the directors
  • Providing environmental training to staff at all levels managing a team of technical, scientific and engineering staff
  • Writing plans and reports keeping up to date with changes in environmental legislation and initiatives and producing educational resources
  • Establish and implement M&E policies, systems and strategies to monitor compliance of service delivery processes and recommend measures of efficiency and effectiveness to strengthen performance metrics in order to achieve improvements in cost, quality, service and speed
  • Support Resource Mobilization by providing research and technical input for proposals for donors support
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Masters degree in Environmental Management or related field;
  • Qualification in Project Management will be an added advantage;
  • Eight (8) years relevant experience gained coordinating high level environmental management or research projects at least four (4) of which must be in Project Management;
  • Experience in developing donor funded projects, proposals and proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is essential.
Required skills & Competencies
  • Broad knowledge of environmental studies, including in-depth understanding of emerging environmental issues globally
  • Ability to coordinate, initiate, develop and deliver high quality environmental projects as well as making presentations at national, regional and international conferences
  • Strong communication skills including ability to develop proposals, concept papers, position papers as well as write reports and prepare relevant publications
  • Demonstrate technical expertise in quality assurance as well as monitoring and evaluation for environmental projects
