About Innovations for Poverty Action: Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and evaluates approaches to solving development problems.
IPA disseminates the results of its evaluations to policymakers, practitioners, investors and donors around the world.

“General Equilibrium Effects of Cash Transfers in Kenya” is a randomized impact evaluation of the cash transfers managed by the NGO GiveDirectly. In addition to effects for recipient households, there may be a variety of effects for non-recipients, markets and communities.

We will analyze whether there are positive or negative spillovers of welfare (for instance, income, consumption and health) of non-recipients, whether there are changes in prices, wages and job creation in areas that receive more cash transfers, and whether there are changes in local public goods (for instance schooling, health clinics and wells) and the factors that may be driving these changes.

The current project timeline is as follows: Baseline surveys of households and businesses will be conducted in the second half of 2014 to early 2015.
Follow-up phone surveys of businesses and markets will be conducted between January 2015 and December 2015, with endline surveys beginning in January 2016 and concluding in June 2016.
