Team Leader – SME 

Ref: TLSME/05/HRD/2014
Reporting to the Head of Operations, the successful candidate will be in charge of driving the sales team in achieving agreed sales volume and profit objectives by acquiring, growing and retaining profitable SME Banking customers within acceptable risk parameters and also contribute towards achieving the overall SME banking targets.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • To coach, manage and lead an SME team in customer acquisition and retention, portfolio management and growth.
  • Deepen relationship with SME Banking customers in providing effective need based financial solutions
  • Generate new business via direct selling to customers and referrals from different approved sales channels
  • Build and expand existing customer relationships via in-depth analysis of their needs
  • Identify and prioritize activities to maximize revenue contribution from the high potential customers
  • Manage the risk of the portfolio on an ongoing basis through proactive monitoring of customers, their transactions and developments in the general business environment
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism in dealings with customers
  • Ensure that all the team’s account reviews due are tracked and completed one month prior to due date, and any necessary extensions are submitted to Credit office 14 days before due date
  • Ensure that customer due diligence is properly carried out.
  • Consult and recommend strategies where account management or recovery is needed on problem accounts, assisting Credit Team in identifying sources to expedite loan recovery
  • Work closely with branch service staff and other SME Banking service centres to ensure a high level of after-sales service is provided to SME Banking customers
  • Give regular feedback to management on product and processes based on customer feedback
  • Identify and develop high potential team members
  • Identify and manage-out low performing team members
  • To comply with all regulatory requirements with special attention on:
  1. MLP and to be alert in detecting unusual or possibly suspicious customer activities. The job holder must report any suspicious transactions to reporting manager or directly to the Risk Manager
  2. Avoid conducting transactions with potential reputational risk and
  3. Avoid mis-selling activities
Qualifications & Competences:
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting / Banking / Finance
  • Have thorough knowledge in SME lending
  • Demonstrable Marketing and Credit assessment skills
  • Strong financial analysis and Excellent numerical skills
  • Sound knowledge of banking laws, practices and procedures
  • Sound Knowledge of regulations governing the banking sector
  • Have good knowledge of the micro-finance industry and practices
  • Demonstrable skills in strong leadership, marketing and reporting
  • Computer skills including Advanced Excel spreadsheets and MS applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent presentation Skills
  • Self-driven and possess the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Applicants must be a committed Christian
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar position
  • Aged between 30 and 40 years
