Marie Stopes Kenya (MSK) is currently implementing an AusAID funded project at the Coast across five counties (Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu, Taita Taveta and Mombasa).
The Australia Africa Community Engagement Scheme (AACES) project, aims to contribute to increased access to and uptake of equity sensitive sexual and reproductive health services by marginalized populations in Kenya.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, the Project Officer – AACES; will oversee project implementation activities within the project geographical areas; and ensure that the overall project objectives are met and set targets realized.

He/she will be responsible for overall grant monitoring and compliance, ensure regular reporting to MSK and donors is carried out in a timely and qualitative fashion; work with the regional team to support the implementation of community led initiatives and service delivery through social franchising, and ensuring adherence to MSK internal policies and donors’ procedures and guidelines.

Location: Regional Office- Mombasa with constant travel within the region

Probationary Period: 3 Months

Salary Range: KShs. 65,000 – 75,000 Gross Pay

Type of Contract: Fixed Term- 2 years

Marie Stopes Kenya works in partnership with Marie Stopes International (MSI) and is a marketing focused, results orientated social enterprise.

Our plan is to improve and expand comprehensive sexual reproductive health care all women and men by 2015.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of quarterly work plans and spend plans to ensure smooth operation of all project activities.
  • Support the preparation of all internal and external reports, including interim and annual donor reports, consistent with donor regulations and protocols; and weekly and monthly project situation reports.
  • Contribute to the preparation and management of project budgets.
  • Coordinate project implementation, including capacity building initiatives, partnership management, demand generation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Prepare and coordinate procurement requests for goods and services for the projects.
  • Develop relationships with all critical stakeholders; share relevant information as required, build synergies between activities, partners and different components of the project.
  • Coordinate information sharing across MSK departments and service delivery channels, including outreach, clinics and social franchising.
  • Support implementation of community mobilization and community led initiatives for the projects and work with the staff members who oversee engagement with community health workers and youth peer educators.
  • Assist in all research and monitoring and evaluation activities for the project, including a project reviews, operational research, best practices, data collection and coordination and on-going monitoring of project performance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Two years NGO experience; experience in SRH would be an added advantage
  • Bachelor’s degree in community development, sociology or health
  • Project management or project coordination experience
  • Excellent time management and task prioritization skills
  • Proven track record of working with communities and understanding the GoK community  strategy
  • Extensive knowledge of ministry of health core functions and systems
  • Ability to work individually and within a team environment
  • Computer software literate
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili
  • Experience working at the Coast is a must, familiarity with development stakeholders within the region an  asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including cultural sensitivity, assertiveness and negotiating skills.
