Our Company is a leading sugar miller with a heritage spanning over forty years, situated in Western Kenya along Awasi-Nandi Hills road (About 55km from Kisumu).

We seek for suitable qualified and experienced Kenyan citizens who are dynamic, self motivated and results oriented for the following positions.

1. Head of Agriculture (Production)

Reporting to:  Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate all activities of sugar cane production in Agronomy, Nucleus Estate and Outgrowers to efficiently achieve specified targets.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor preparation and control of departmental annual budgets.
  • Co-ordinate and supervise the preparation and implementation of departmental strategic plans.
  • Oversee the implementation of the department’s aspect of Service Charter
  • Co-ordinate harvesting and delivery of mature and quality cane from the Nucleus Estate.
  • Oversee the operation of the irrigation system within the Nucleus Estate.
  • Implement corruption prevention plans.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of staff against set targets and objectives and implement development action plans aimed at capacity building of individuals and multi-disciplinary teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Agricultural Science.
  • Minimum five years (5), two (2) preferably in the sugar industry at management level.
  • Membership to a professional body.
2.  Head of Factory

Reporting to:
Managing Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate all factory operations and activities to achieve set production targets and other key performance indicators, such as efficiency, high sugar quality, minimal cost
  • Liaise with other Heads of Departments on production targets.
  • Advise the Management on changes of plant operations, technology changes, factory layout and additional equipment, which may be necessary for optimisation of sugar production.
  • Avail capacity for maximum sugar production.
  • Prepare detailed operational, maintenance and capital budgets.
  • Control expenditure in the factory within agreed budgeted limits.
  • Oversee maintenance, modifications, upgrades, rehabilitation and improvement of all     plants and equipment in the factory as necessary.
  • Present factory reports to Management meetings.
  • Monitor compliance to Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
  • Make recommendations on evolving human resource requirements.
  • Sort out emerging work people-related work issues.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of staff against set targets and objectives.
  • Implement corruption-prevention measures in Factory Department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Science degree in Engineering, Chemistry or Food Technology.
  • Post-graduate Certification in relevant professional field.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body e.g. IEK,
  • Minimum ten (10) years experience in a large manufacturing firm, five (5) of which must have been at a senior management level.
3. Head of Marketing

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and develop the overall marketing objectives, strategies sales programmes and tactics.
  • Develop strategic partnerships
  • Market intelligence to gather information on changing trends, competition activity
  • Plan and administer the Company’s Marketing and Operations budget.
  • Carry out topline feasibility studies on new product/business lines.
  • Identify and develop company advertising objectives, strategy and in partnership with Adverting Agencies/Media create brand awareness.
  • Cull brands that are uneconomical to the company.
  • Maintain direct contact with the company stakeholders, leaders, and the public.
  • Determine price points and discount rates for products.
  • Train and coach staff for effective performance.
  • Provide relevant and accurate marketing information on Chemelil Sugar Company products and services to external parties and for strategy formulation.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Marketing/Business administration.
  • Membership to a relevant Professional body.
  • Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in a reputable organisation.
4. Public Relations Manager

Reporting to: 
Managing Director

Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate ideas for all corporate publications of information about the company in the mass media and in-house magazine to enhance the corporate image amongst stakeholders and the public including editing and publishing.
  • Conceptualise and develop PR programmes for implementation by the Section to achieve its sectional as well as corporate objectives
  • Evaluate grants and sponsorship requests using a Corporate Responsibility Charter and implement appropriate corporate social responsibility programmes
  • Initiate and develop plans and activities budget for effective implementation of PR programmes
  • Provide preceding PR marketing education to facilitate acceptance of newly launched company products including sugar brand and services
  • Administer Company’s website
  • Provide strategic financial PR counselling to management and stakeholder
  • Develop good work ethic and culture change programme
  • Design innovative PR and marketing promotional materials
  • Attend and represent company’s interests in corporate functions and conferences.
  • Enhance the Company’s image through potential image building disciplines including sports to facilitate achievement of company’s objectives and goals
  • Monitor current and emerging trends in sugar sales.
  • Prepare concept papers, speeches, corporate presentations for Management (Managing director and Company Chairman or Board representative)
  • Develop and implement strategy for creating a high performing organisational   culture based on transparency, integrity, accountability to ensure the company’s corporate image and identity are extolled.
  • Originate and co-ordinate displays and exhibitions portfolio for the company, both for corporate and marketing significance, with focus on informational and promotional strategies (campaigns)
  • Recommend and commission all communication strategies for the company
  • Recommend and coordinate social and welfare programmes that are under the auspices of corporate communication and marketing such as sports, parties, donations, anniversaries
  • Promote customer and investor relations for the company
  • Initiate and commission opinion audits, image surveys, complaints feedback mechanism, and advice management
  • Interact with outside publics on both corporate and image related issues with a view to establishing mutual beneficial relationship
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Communication or Social Science with a post graduate diploma in Journalism/ Public Relations
  • Membership to a relevant Professional body like the Public Relations Society of Kenya is an added advantage
  • Minimum five (5) year experience in any reputable agro-based public institution
5. Engineering Manager – Electrical

Reporting to: Head of Factory

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee proper running and operation of all electrical equipment in the factory
  • Monitor preventive maintenance of all electrical equipment and instrumentation at minimal costs.
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of maintenance schedules of all electrical / instruments equipments to minimise downtime.
  • Monitor power parameters to ensure they are within acceptable limits.
  • Propose the annual operating and maintenance as well as capital budget for approval.
  • Timely acquisition of spares for all electrical/ instruments equipments.
  • Monitor compliance to safe working conditions to personnel and equipment.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports.
  • Sort out some people-related work issues.
  • Plan, monitor and evaluate the performance of staff against set targets and objectives.
  • Monitor and control utilisation of electrical power in all company installations.
  • Identify factory electrical equipment improvement/upgrade and automation requirements and make recommendations to Management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional practice licence with the ERC.
  • Membership to a relevant professional body – e.g. Institute of Engineers of Kenya
  • Minimum eight (8) years relevant experience from a large manufacturing concern, two of which should preferably be in the sugar industry
6. Chemist – Juice Treatment

Reporting to: Process Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor juice and syrup clarification to achieve set parameters.
  • Coordinate operations with personnel from mills, boilers, sugar house and laboratory, for smooth and efficient running of the J/T area.
  • Plan, organize and carry out weekly and annual process maintenance in conjunction with Area Engineer and Process Manager.
  • Oversee efficient juice heating and evaporation to achieve target syrup brixes.
  • Monitor mud filtration operations to avoid mud build up in the clarifier.
  • Oversee good housekeeping standards that comply with statutory requirements in areas of sugar quality, health and safety and environmental management.
  • Carry out industrial tests on new chemicals, production lines or techniques to ascertain their suitability for sugar production.
  • Maintain adequate good stock levels of the daily consumables and chemicals for use in the area.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Food science and Technology or its equivalent.
  • Membership to relevant professional body e.g. K.S.S.C.T.
  • Minimum four (4) years relevant experience gained from a food manufacturing concern, preferably in the sugar industry
7. Chemist – Shift

Reporting to:
Process Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement FIFO principle in cane handling to avoid cane deterioration in the factory yard.
  • Monitor hourly process parameters and ensure set targets are achieved.
  • Prepare a work programme at commencement of shift to avoid material congestion and maximise sugar production.
  • Liaise with the Shift Engineer to sustain adequate supply of steam and injection water to the Process house.
  • Monitor compliance to safe working conditions of shift personnel and safety of equipment.
  • Coordinate operations at the evaporation, clarification, filtration, sugar house and bagging stations to avoid downtime.
  • Monitor and control usage of process chemical and materials.
  • Process and bag high quality sugar that meets the Kenya Bureau of Standards requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Degree in Food Science and Technology, Chemistry or equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience gained in food manufacturing concern, preferably in the sugar industry
