Savannah Cement is the newest cement company in the Kenyan market having completed a state – of – the – art Greenfield Cement Grinding Plant in Athi River, Kenya.
The plant employs the latest cement technology in the market to produce 1.5 million tonnes of the various cement products per annum for the Kenyan and regional market.
Savannah Cement is seeking to recruit highly motivated, dynamic and innovative result oriented professionals, seeking a thrilling and fulfilling experience, to join the company in the following position:
Procurement Manager

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Procurement Manager will develop focused supply strategies for products, supported with supply agreements as required with regard to purchasing and supply in support of the business both tactically and strategically.

Responsibilities
  • Advising the organisation on all strategic procurement matters, and act as the source of the organisation’s procurement expertise.
  • Monitoring and steering the delivery of the organisation’s procurement activity and assisting in ensuring procurements are undertaken in accordance with the organisation’s stated aims and objectives.
  • Maintaining and updating as necessary, the organisation’s corporate procurement strategy, and ensuring the successful delivery of that strategy.
  • Providing leadership focus for the organisation’s procurement community and ensuring that the highest professional standards of procurement practice are maintained to deliver the benefits of best procurement practice.
  • Providing professional procurement advice to all budget holders in respect of all stages of key procurement exercises. In particular, the development and agreement of business cases, the identification of stakeholders’ requirements, market analysis, risk management, change control procedures, contract management and post contract review.
  • Liaising with budget holders to deliver cost reductions, quality improvements, or security of supply outcomes.
  • Adopting and using any new procurement efficiency tools making use of technology, shared solutions and other collaborative mechanisms.
  • Identifying, exploring and evaluating opportunities for procurement collaboration and develop and maintain strategic alliances / partnerships.
  • Ensuring performance data is obtained regarding the organisation’s key suppliers, contractors and service providers, and that such data is reviewed in order to identify and correct weaknesses.
  • Developing, maintaining, monitoring and reviewing performance indicators relating to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organisation’s procurement function and wherever necessary recommend and implement corrective action on a timely basis; and
  • Awareness of all new developments and initiatives concerning procurement, including new legislation and Government guidelines, and ensuring that all relevant officers in the organisation are advised appropriately.
This position requires extensive knowledge about the industry.
The ideal candidate will be a holder of a University degree in Business Administration, logistics or Supply Chain Management coupled with at least 5 years of progressive experience and demonstrable record of success in a manufacturing and competitive environment.
Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) Qualified.
An MBA is desirable but not essential.
Planning, organizing, financial, budgeting and decision-making skills are all essential requirements, as are leadership and communications abilities.
Strong market awareness, attention to detail and problem-solving are also necessary attributes.
